International Awards Success

We’re delighted to have won two medals at the International Brewing Awards 2021. The competition, which dates back to 1886, has a long history of championing the world’s best brewers and cider-makers, and the competition’s unique approach to the judging process sets it apart from other awards, earning it the reputation as the ‘Oscars of the brewing world’

Thousand Yard Stare, our 5.4% hazy pale ale, launched in January 2021 and available in can, keg and cask, won a silver medal in the speciality Gluten Free beer section whilst Baby-Faced Assassin, our flagship IPA that turned 10 years old earlier this year won a bronze medal in the Strong Cask conditioned Beer category. In total, 126 medals and 12 trophies were awarded to beers from all over the world, including entrants from Australia, China, Japan, Luxembourg, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, USA and the UK and we’re delighted to have been amongst the winners in what is a competition regarding to be one of the most robust in the world of beer judging.

Initially developed during the first lockdown of 2020 and named after the phrase coined to describe the unfocused gaze of a battle-weary soldier, Thousand Yard Stare, like the vast majority of our beers, is vegan-friendly, but also became one of two beers in our year-round line up that’s also gluten free. It’s a beer we’re extremely proud of and, prior to it picking this award on the international stage, we’ve been extremely pleased with the feedback we’ve been receiving for the beer over the past 12 months.

Baby-Faced Assassin has won countless awards over the last decade, including successes at the International Brewing Awards, so it’s great to see our team’s hard work and uncompromised approach to quality and consistency recognised once again.

Earlier in 2021, we also bagged a few medals at the SIBA North East Beer Competition, with both Baby-Faced Assassin and Pilsnear both picking up bronze in their respective categories, while Roots. Rock. Reggae won gold in the cask competition and Wild Wild Life, our first ever barrel-aged release, won gold its category in the small pack competition. Both gold medal-winning beers will now enter the national competition that’ll take place next year.

Cheers!
